How GIS Export works
From a QLD, NSW or VIC street address to downloadable site data in minutes, here is how the GIS Export workflow works.
Choose the site or area
Enter a Queensland, New South Wales or Victorian street address, draw an extent on the map, or upload a GeoJSON, KML, KMZ or zipped Shapefile boundary. Address mode locates the cadastral parcel; custom-area modes use the extent you provide.
Choose datasets, outputs and CRS
Select from the 17 datasets currently offered. Choose any combination of Shapefile, DXF, GeoPackage and KMZ for compatible vector layers; dataset-specific outputs such as GeoTIFF elevation, DXF TIN and georeferenced imagery are supplied where selected and available. You can also choose the target coordinate system.
The coordinate system is auto-suggested based on the location (MGA Zone 54, 55, or 56 depending on longitude). GDA2020 is the default; GDA94 and WGS84 geographic are also available.
We fetch the data
Each dataset is fetched from the relevant state government source and clipped to a buffer around your property. This keeps the GIS Export focused on the site and immediate surrounds. Here is what each dataset contains:
| Dataset | Description | Formats |
|---|---|---|
| Property Boundary | Cadastral lot boundaries with lot/plan attributes. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Geology | Surface geology polygons with unit name, lithology and age. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Soils | Australian Soil Classification orders and soil landscape units. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Acid Sulphate Soils | Acid sulphate soil risk and occurrence mapping. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Contours | Elevation contour lines, Z embedded on each vertex. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Elevation Points | 3D spot heights sampled from the state DEM. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Elevation Raster | Float32 DEM in metres AHD, clipped to the extent. | GeoTIFF |
| TIN Surface | Delaunay triangulated surface over the DEM, as DXF 3DFACE entities. | DXF |
| Watercourses | Mapped streams, creeks and drainage lines. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Roads | Road centrelines with names, for site context and setout. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Aerial Imagery | Current aerial photography as a georeferenced JPG, plus a KMZ overlay. NSW and QLD only. SA: South Australian aerial imagery is licensed and cannot be redistributed in exports. Victoria: Victorian aerial imagery is licensed and cannot be redistributed in exports. | JPG + world file, plus KMZ overlay |
| Flood Overlays | Flood planning areas, AEP extents, overland flow paths, storm tide and mapped historic flood events. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Bushfire Overlays | Bushfire prone areas, bushfire management overlays and hazard buffers. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Geohazard Overlays | Landslide risk, mine subsidence, underground coal mining, erosion management and salinity. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Planning Zones | Planning scheme zones and region scheme zones. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Heritage Overlays | State and local heritage places, heritage overlays and registers. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |
| Easements | Registered easements over the cadastre, from the state digital cadastral database. | SHP, DXF, GPKG, KMZ |

Download your ZIP
All selected layers and outputs are packaged into a single ZIP downloaded directly in your browser. It is organised by format, including shp/, dxf/, kmz/, and the GeoPackage at the root. Dataset-specific raster and imagery files sit at the root.
Every ZIP also includes DATASETS.txt and datasets.json, which record what was included, where no features were found, where the source has no published coverage, and whether an upstream service was unavailable. COPYRIGHT.txt records source attribution and licensing.
DXF exports include the property boundary and contours draped onto the DEM surface, giving true 3D coordinates ready for Civil 3D and similar CAD workflows.
Coverage & limitations
✓ Supported
- Queensland street addresses
- New South Wales street addresses
- Victorian street addresses
- Drawn and uploaded custom areas
- Urban, suburban and rural parcels
- GDA2020, GDA94, and WGS84 coordinate systems
✗ Not supported
- SA, WA, TAS, ACT and NT addresses
- PO boxes or non-street addresses
- Real-time or live sensor data
- Bathymetric or offshore data
Data is sourced from government spatial services and reflects the currency and coverage of those sources. Dataset availability and resolution vary by location. Victorian aerial imagery is not redistributed because its licence does not permit it; the export tool shows state restrictions before purchase.
